All About Kevin Vaca

Kevin Vaca is a gay Mexican-American artist from Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is an Animator, Illustrator, Comic Artist, Character Designer, Sculptor, Painter, and StoryTeller. From a very young age, Kevin fell in love with art and animation, being drawn in by the whimsical movement and use of color in Disney’s “Fantasia 2000”. This imbued him with the desire to create the same kind of magic for others when he grew up.

The medium of the artwork that he works in can vary from day to day, favoring the organic and human-touch that traditional mediums have, but also appreciating the stream-lined and neatness of digital. His artistic style is colorful and surrealist, blending modern themes and the every-day with dream-like fantasy. Oftentimes, color is used to tell a story, often making use of color to represent or symbolize specific ideas and concepts.

Themes of surrealism, dreams, Mexican culture, emotional exploration, the gay experience, teen-hood and young adulthood, nostalgia, melancholia, and diary-like introspection are common in his pieces.

Kevin’s goals as an artist and animator are to entertain and move people, and explore the human condition and how scary, fun, sad, frustrating, or beautiful being alive can be. He hopes to one day be a show-runner for a cartoon series, create a graphic novel series, and/or possibly one day having his own animation studio.

Currently, he is a senior at Massachusetts College of Art & Design majoring in Animation.
